These trousers are inspired by a damask tablecloth from the Versailles supper club in New York City. Versailles (1936-1958) was founded by Nick and Oto Prounis and Arnold Rossfield, and was located across from the Waldorf Astoria hotel. The house band was led by Desi Arnaz and the club was frequented by New York luminaries including Texas Guinan, Judy Garland, Perry Como, and Dean Martin. In 1949, the Versailles hosted the U.S. debut of French chanteuse Edith Piaf.
Made from historical reproductions of the club’s original damask tablecloths, the styles in this series pay homage to the Prounis family’s arrival and life in New York.
22K gold-plated buttons, featuring Prounis’ signature spherical ornamentation reminiscent of Etruscan granulation. Buttons handmade in Rhode Island.
