In the Georgian era, roughly 1720s to 1830s, it was common for women to embroider long panels to hang along the posts of a covered bed. The thick hand embroidery down the side seams of these trousers is a reproduction of one such panel, dating to the late 1700s. The colors are characteristic of embroidery from the period.
